Thoughts - Google's Map Maker and Us Rookie Map Makers (Part 2)

Turkey and Bulgaria EVS Precision Shoreline in Google Maps (GM)
This is how simple it should be to import a completed map file into Google Map Maker (GMM). That way a map maker could produce the shoreline, in this particular case in Global Mapper using Landsat ETM+ imagery. Export the digitized shoreline in KML/KMZ format from Global Mapper. Load the completed shoreline section into GMM for final evaluation and eventual inclusion into Google Maps database.

Turkey and Bulgaria Shoreline in Google Earth (GE)
This image shows you that not all shorelines have DG imagery (see pale tiles). In this stretch of shoreline, only the southeastern portion has DG images and a large section of that is cloud-obscured. Working off of Landsat ETM+ gives an acceptable shoreline. In fact, that is what GM is using, EVS precision shorelines. Their map data is from Basarsoft, an outfit based in Turkey which works with MapInfo and serves a number of national and regional clients. The shorelines they supplied to Google were taken from Landsat ETM+ - EVS precision vectors. And they look great!
A note to Google Maps - You currently use vector data extracted from Landsat ETM+ from Basarsoft and TeleAtlas. Why not use my EVS precision vector files? I do great shorelines!
Enjoy!
