Thoughts - The Summer of Everything Else But Mapping Islands
I began teaching middle school twelve years ago. I had just finished an extremely stressful situation in a second startup company. The challenge of teaching was a welcome new direction. Besides the daily interaction with the young adults, the summer vacation has always been a real plus. One has two and a half months to unwind from the rigors of teaching. In my case, two and a half months to make maps of islands.
That is in a perfect world. In the real world, let me share my busy summer vacation. From June 15th through July 1st, I enjoyed myself making maps and keeping myself busy around the house. From July 1st through the end of August I've been keeping two very inquisitive and busy grandchildren entertained, going on a two week vacation, moving from a small condo into a large home. Moving my daughter from a large home into a small condo. Finally, after the move, San Diego undergoes an uncomfortable heatwave. That large home I am in now has no air conditioning. I have seen more movies than I care to admit. Everyday, I am called upon to fix something. The latest is a dryer, well beyond my limited expertise, that is going to require an expensive repairman.
In 40-minutes, I will greet my students and we will begin a new school year. All of us will be busy ensuring that the school year gets off on the right track. Unfortunately, that track does not include much time for making maps of islands. My various mapping projects, Easter Island, Sherbro Island, Malta and others, will have to wait. Until I am able to post on a regular basis, take care, be kind to an island and make a map.
Enjoy!
