How To Convert PGS Map Files into KML/KMZ
The following is a Google Earth Post that I just submitted. It details my successful conversion of NGA PGS Region 6W into KMZ format. After conversion the file opened immediately and successfully into Google Earth.
NGA PGS Region 6W Shorelines in Red
I work with the NGA Prototype Global Shoreline map files extensively. They were extracted from Landsat ETM+ 2000 imagery by EarthSat (now MDA Federal). These map files show the most precise global shorelines. My blogsite, EVS-Islands , has had a number of discussions concerning these map files. Today, an unidentified party, visited my site wanting information on how one might convert these files into KML/KMZ format. I didn't have any current information so, I figured I would go ahead and give it a try. I used my mapping software, Global Mapper , to convert a portion of the PGS database, Region 6W - Pacific Islands, into KMZ format. The KMZ packet is 1.94mb. And you know, it works just fine. Any feedback would be appreciated.
