Data - Digital Topographical Mexican Maps (1:250,000) and They Are Free!
As many of you know, I am a data hound. I track down information that can be mapped or contribute to mapping efforts. Living in San Diego, California, I have a fascination with things Mexican, especially things Baja. For the past year I have been slowly mapping, at EVS resolution, the shoreline and islands of Baja using Landsat imagery. After discovering these maps and using them many times, I figured that my readers might find them useful as well. Now about the data.
Villa Constitucion Topo (Detail)The topos are raster images of the 1:250,000 paper maps. Included along with the map is documentation (in Spanish) and georeferencing information for each topo. The raster image is 4500 x 2932 in size. The topos are clean images and easy to work with either as reference tools or base imagery.
These topos are part of a project at the Earth Observing Laboratory NCAR. I have not fully explored the nooks and crannys of this web site, but my suspicion is that other mapping jewels are still to be discovered within the project archives. Enjoy the data!
